The Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) has once again embarked on a journey to sift out among the best, one young lady to be crowned Miss Dominica 2014.
On Thursday November 28th, seven young ladies accompanied by their chaperones, signed their contracts confirming their participation in the Miss Dominica 2014 pageant, scheduled to take place on February 22nd 2017.
The Carnival Queen pageant is part of Mas Dominique 2014 – The Real MAS, Dominica’s highly acclaimed Carnival celebration.
MAS Dominique presents the chance for Dominicans to showcase traditional village elements, costume designs and bands from across the Island.
It also serves to create a platform for business partners to support the traditional cultures and for visitors and returning nationals to positively engage in the development of the Island.
Mr. Colin Piper, Chief Executive Officer of the Discover Dominica Authority told the girls that they are now a big part of attracting visitors to the Island, through their involvement in the show, as well as the reign of the winner when she goes on to represent the country.
He warned the young ladies to be prepared for hard work as the journey ahead is not an easy one.
The seven young ladies who will compete for the title include; Ms. Jewele’ Bianca Browne, representing the community of Pointe Michele, Ms. Shalina Samuel, representing the village of Stockfarm and Ms. Octavia Prosper, representing the villages of La Plaine and Delices.
Other contestants include; Ms. Royette J. Laurent, from the community of Portsmouth, Ms. Donnella Riviere, representing the capital city, Roseau, Ms. Francine Tiffany Baron from the village of Grand Bay and Ms. Tourence Bernita Dorsette representing the community of Marigot.
